The brief for this project was to adapt this modest family bungalow in South Norfolk to create improved entertaining and family space, as well as making better use of the subterranean garage and improving the property’s entrance way.
This was achieved through extending the property to the side and over the existing basement garage. Due to the property’s rural outlook, keeping the low-level single story feel was important in this instance. However, making use of the slightly raised interior allowed interest to be added to the floor plan.
Extension allowed for a large, open-plan family and entertaining space consisting of a new, impressive central entrance hall, alongside a smaller family living room. The entertaining space opens onto a large external raised terrace, creating a feel of combined inside-outside space. The light, open feel to the living space is enhanced by the high vaulted ceilings, the large roof lights, and the doors and windows.
The placement was also extended to four main multi-use spaces that can evolve over the years as the needs of the owners change.
