Peterborough Cathedral West Front exterior

The Whitworth Co-Partnership were appointed to design and oversee the works to improve the access to Peterborough Cathedral. This involved the removal of the old leaded screens to the West Porch of the Cathedral and the design of a new level access to the Cathedral and a new entrance worthy of a Cathedral of Peterborough’s stature. The design aims to allow views in and out of the Cathedral and create a more welcoming and uplifting entrance space and draught lobby. The result of this was 4 sets of glazed doors, including a fully glazed internal screen.

The design was carefully considered to ensure it followed the lines and form of the existing porch and portico spaces, without detracting form the Cathedral’s fabric.
