Orange Triangle

Change of Use & New Housing, Stowmarket

The existing building consisted of a three storey listed building at the front of the site with a two storey rear wing projecting to the rear, this wing had originally extended to the back of the site and house 4 cottages but hall of the building had been demolished many years ago.

Project Overview

The building had been used as a bakery and shop until it closed around the turn of the century. Since this time the building had been unused and was falling into disrepair. The use of the building as a bakery had involved a number of unsympathetic extensions and also removing some of the original internal walls.

With a surplus of retail units in the town the proposal was to restore the building and use it as two separate dwellings. A further new build dwelling was created at the north end of the site in the location where the previous wing had been demolished. The building was restored and upgraded to meet current building regulations and the extensions which were constructed during the bakery years were removed to reveal the original form of the building. Where original features existed these have been retained, missing walls re formed in their original positions and new windows fitted following their original pattern.
