Mere House, Haughley
The design of the house gives picturesque views from the main living spaces out over the mere in the grounds. The large living room has a fully glazed oak-framed wall to maximise these views and daylight within.
Project Overview
The large entrance hall opens out into both the front and rear of the property, forming a central circulation space between the living room, study, cloakroom and kitchen. A large oak staircase links the hallway to the open landing and onto two en-suite bedrooms, one master bedroom with en-suite and dressing room, a further bedroom and a family bathroom.
The building has been designed with very high levels of insulation and incorporates an air source heat pump to provide central heating and hot water requirements, with solar water heaters to boost hot water provision. The southerly orientation enhances solar gain throughout, with most main rooms having a southerly aspect. Whole-house heat recovery ventilation systems provide controlled ventilation and energy saving measures.
The house and garage were designed to follow the Suffolk vernacular and create a modern family dwelling that sits well in its rural location. Hard and soft landscaping has been sympathetically designed to fit this rural ideal.
