Suffolk Farmhouse Renovation

Whitworth Architects supported the careful restoration and reimagination of this Grade II listed Suffolk farmhouse, blending heritage with modern living. The project included structural repairs, a sensitive barn conversion, and a new glazed link, all delivered in close consultation with conservation authorities to create a characterful yet practical family home.

Project Overview

The renovation of this Grade 2 Listed farmhouse in Suffolk has been undertaken in a number of phases.

Although the property had been occupied, it was in a state that required extensive repair and refurbishment by the current owners.

This has resulted in:

  • Internal structural and cosmetic repairs
  • The demolition of unsympathetic 20th century additions to the property
  • The extension of a new entrance hall and utility space
  • The conversion of an attached barn into additional living accommodation
  • The re-ordering of existing living accommodation and the construction of a glazed link within the property.

The works have all required Listed building consent and these have been delivered in capital consultation with the local authority and the client. Following this, schedules, as well as detailed construction and repair drawings, were produced, from which the builders were able to deliver the end result.

This has created a remarkable family home in a traditional setting, retaining the character of the property whilst allowing the new owners to put their own mark on it.
