Orange Triangle

Swiss Church, London

The project involved a major refurbishment of the church building on Endell Street, in central London.

Project Overview

Whitworth was appointed as conservation consultants for the project, carrying out an initial survey of the fabric of the building and providing a consultation role throughout the construction process. This role was expanded to provide executive architects responsibilities: overseeing the works on site, alongside the Swiss architects;  Christ and Gantenbein.

The original historic structure and features of the building have been retained and incorporated into the formation of a striking new insertion providing small meeting room spaces and balconies at the east end and a new organ loft.

The angular glass screen dividing the main worship space from the entrance and small meeting rooms provides a crisp contemporary translucent feel, which enhances the whole building.

Careful attention has been paid to the sensitive restoration of the front façade and interior of the original building. The new simple and crisp decorations help to express the building’s space and character.
