Stephen Boniface

Consultant Building Surveyor

My first job was for a firm of Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents, where I qualified and gained experience in a range of work including commercial agency and property management. During the 1980s I was undertaking a wide range of work including surveys, valuations and planning matters. Since childhood I had an interest in history and during the 1980s this became focused on historic buildings and conservation work.

In 1990 I was in the first group of students to complete a new building conservation diploma course. In 1993 I took the decision to become a sole practitioner mainly dealing with building conservation. By this time my work was almost entirely building surveying. In 2000 I merged with The Whitworth Co-Partnership; my decision came about because of my desire to work with those from other professional backgrounds.

I have enjoyed my time here as each day is different with typical workload including a variety of issues from surveys, to planning and expert witness work. What I really enjoy is problem solving and helping property owners resolve concerns and issues with their buildings.

Over the years I have enjoyed getting involved with my profession, RICS, and have served on various boards, got involved in writing and presenting at conferences, etc. I look forward to continuing with the work I enjoy, but also passing on my experience and knowledge to the next generation of conservation professionals.
