The Martello Tower in Aldeburgh is the largest of all similar defensive towers erected during the Napoleonic Wars. It is now a holiday home owned by the Landmark Trust.
The curtain wall south section was in increasingly poor condition, and Whitworth was retained as architects for repairs to the walling with new lime concrete capping. In addition to standard specification, drawings and contract procedures, the work required Scheduled Ancient Monument Consent. The contractor was F A Valiant and Son Ltd, and work benefited from Covid Recovery grant aid from the Government.
