This project demanded a complete refurbishment of a series of Almshouses within Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
The proposals incorporated a series of oak framed zinc clad porches, which increased the living area and dramatically improved the amount of light in these areas. To the centre of the almshouses, an oak framed garden room forms a communal space for the enjoyment of the residents. A complete refurbishment of the heating system, kitchens and decorations has provided up-to-date facilities including level access and landscaped gardens.







In 2023, Whitworth were approach by our client to sympathetically carry out the conversion of an existing 1980s garage, originally built to accommodate the previous owner’s Ferrari, to a new one-bedroom annexe accommodation.
Whitworth oversaw the restoration of the historic Martello Tower in Aldeburgh, the largest of its kind from the Napoleonic Wars.
