The Whitworth Partnership LLP have recently completed 2 roofing repair projects.
At Tower Street in Ipswich, the work was undertaken on behalf of St Mary-le-Tower Church, which is renovating the building for use as its parish office and community centre. The works comprised of high level lead roofing repairs and replacements, as well as the renewal of lead valley and parapet gutters and the rebuilding of parapet walls. Alongside this work, a good deal of re-pointing was undertaken along with a full redecoration of all external joinery. 17 Tower Street is a Grade II listed property in the heart of Ipswich.
We have recently completed the initial phase of roof repair works to the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds over the original Guildhall spaces, which date back to the 13th century. This impressive, almost fully intact 14th-century roof structure was suffering from water ingress. The works involved re-slating the roof, re-using the reclaimed original slates on one slope and new welsh slates on the other. New lead work details, including the ridge and some masonry repairs to stabilise some delicate parapets, were also completed. These repairs should help maintain the integrity and stability of this significant historic roof structure for many years to come. The Guildhall is a grade I listed building and is thought to be the oldest civic building in continuous use in England.
