The practice enjoyed a highly successful evening at the inaugural Suffolk Property Awards held last week at the new Ipswich Academy. Having been shortlisted for 3 awards The Whitworth Co-Partnership LLP came away with 2; Regeneration Project of the Year for the recently completed Woodbridge Quay Church and Environmental Project of the Year for Cherry Tree Close, Wortham. WCP faced stiff competition in all 3 categories from Suffolk architects and the Suffolk construction industry as a whole.
The practice was delighted to win these 2 key awards as they highlight the practices key beliefs of regeneration and conservation of the built environment and the environmental and sustainable considerations of doing so.
Woodbridge Quay Church was built by Gipping Construction of Ipswich and was the extensive reordering and extension of the listed Baptist church, on a restrictive site to create new fellowship and community spaces, as well as working to produce a lighter more uplifting worship space.
Cherry Tree Close in Wortham is a new housing development comprising of 10 homes, including the restoration of an old ‘Ale House’ on the site. The new homes were built to a high level of environmental standards to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, incorporating air source heat pumps, solar thermal and solar PV, rainwater harvesting and heat recovery units. The practice and the developer Greenright Homes were both delighted by the judge’s comments that the passion behind the development was clear to be seen.
