In recent years, Whitworth was involved in the renovation of The Old Post Office in Harleston, Norfolk, which is to be featured on George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations on Channel 4 in summer 2022.

The 5,000 sq ft building started life as Gurney’s Bank in 1790, and as such boasts classic Georgian features, including symmetric proportions, high ceilings and sash windows. In 1896, Gurney’s Bank merged to form Barclays, and the building became the town’s post office. Prior to its most recent renovation, the interior reflected the decor preferences of the late 1800s.

Now, the building has been transformed into a boutique guest house complete with a luxury hammam spa. Efforts were made to sympathetically restore the building while creating an environment conducive to opulence and comfort for visiting guests.

The hammam was crafted in the room of the former bank vault, and features the original exposed brickwork with reinforced iron. It features an arched ceiling – also an original feature of the vault – which mirrors the architecture of traditional hammam spas in the Middle East.
